Safeguarding

Whilst safeguarding is very important with regards to vulnerable people and also the general public, the term "safeguarding" is used frequently without some full understanding what it entails in a broader spectrum. There's a concern it's becoming overused and potentially diluted, leading to a need for more common-sense application and clearer communication. The application can sometimes lead to confusion or a sense of over-regulation.

Devaluation of the term:
When "safeguarding" is applied to everything, it can lose its impact and become less meaningful, potentially diminishing the focus on serious harm and abuse.

Confusion and anxiety:
Overuse can create confusion about what truly constitutes a safeguarding concern, leading to unnecessary anxiety and potentially diverting resources from genuine critical situations.

Potential for over-regulation:
Excessive safeguarding measures can feel burdensome and stifle natural interactions, especially in settings like schools or workplaces, according to some educational resources.
